Mentor Training Reflections

The introductory session of the mentoring program has been extremely successful in informing all of us of what exactly being a mentor means and what we have to achieve.

The meeting started off with us introducing ourselves to each other and being placed into groups. Over the the session, not only have we learnt suffficient information on mentorship, but we have bonded in our circumstances. In groups, we brainstormed on what being a mentor involves, and researched on the term 'inquiry'. Through this, we gained skills which allowed us to question the ways to be a mentor, and the attitude we should have to be the ideal mentor.

During this meeting, we, as a group, have gained further insight on mentorship, for instance, that the criteria of being a good mentor includes having patience, enthusiastic, being responsible, engaging, prepared for any topic which may come up, open-minded, and easy-going. In addition, we must be able to boost the mentoree's self-esteem. Overall, we have decided that mentorship is the process of nurturing one's social and academic progress.

With this proud achievement of being able to define what being a mentor really is, the meeting ended, and I'm sure that we all look forward to the next inspiring one.
